Round/Oval Hinged Coaming
Text Box: Baier manufactures hinged hatches in round and oval shapes, which are coaming mounted and designed for quick release with a grab handle as shown. This hatch is often used as a crawl through escape hatch. The standard hatch sizes are 22” round and 15” x 24” oval and 13.5” x 20.5” oval (clear opening diameter). All Baier Hatches use the patented strongback system of securing the hatch cover to the deck. It is superior to other more complicated hatch closure systems because it is simple (only two moving parts), it is stronger, it is more reliably watertight, and it is more easily serviced (parts are readily available and replaced in the field). The complete model BCHH hatch cover product line is available in both cast aluminum and cast steel. No other flush hatch is available in cast steel (which is stronger, more durable, and more impact resistant when compared to iron hatches, especially in cold climates). Each hatch has an underside escape turning bar for safety. A turning wheel is optional. The deck ring is available in galvanized mild steel (for welding into steel decks), or cast aluminum (for welding into aluminum decks or bolting to fiberglass or wood decks). A detachable hex wrench is used for quick operation and can be stored separate from the hatch for security. All lift out hatches can be purchased with coamings.
